BE LIKE MAURICE 💛
Every now and then, someone comes into your world who reminds you how much difference one person can make to those they commit themselves to.
For us, that person is Maurice.
When we put out a call for an animal needing transport, Maurice is there.
And he lives over 2 hours from Geelong!
Distance doesn't matter. If there’s an animal in need of a ride, Maurice is there.
Recently, he spent over five hours on the road getting a pregnant cat into foster care.
He quite literally goes the distance for animals who need him.
And It doesn't stop there.
Over the years, Maurice has donated generously towards veterinary care for animals in need.
When we recently put out our crisis call for help with mounting vet bills, we set an enormous target of $30,000. The kind and generous donations came in but seeing we remained short of where we needed to be, Maurice quietly stepped in and donated an incredible $5,000, taking us a huge step closer to that target, hoping it would help us get there.
And he does all of it quietly.
Not for recognition.
Not for praise.
Not because he expects anything in return.
He simply sees animals that need help and, he provides whatever he can in that moment, for that animal.
The only thing Maurice does hope for, is that his generosity inspires others.
Not so people know what he has done, but because he hopes it might encourage somebody else to find their own way of helping.
Because helping rescue animals doesn't have to look like Maurice's contribution:
You don't need thousands of dollars.
You don't need to spend five hours driving across Victoria.
You just need to find your giving groove.
Make a small tax deductible monthly donation.
Consider leaving a bequest in your will
Have a birthday party and ask for donations instead of gifts.
Become a foster carer.
Put your hand up for a transport run.
Host a fundraiser.
Donate supplies.
Share an adoption profile or post.
Volunteer your time.
There are a hundred different ways to make a difference.
Maurice found his.
And because he did, animals have made it to safety, veterinary treatment has been possible, we have been able to breathe a little easier, and lives have quite literally been changed as a direct result of his actions
.
So today, we don't just want to say a simple thank you.
We want to say thank you, Maurice, for showing us what quiet generosity looks like.
For the kilometres.
For the hours.
For the donations.
For answering the calls.
And most of all, for simply showing up — again and again.
And to everyone reading this:
We hope you're inspired to be like Maurice.
Not by giving what he gives.
But by finding the thing you can give generously of. To us, or to other organisations who also need the support of their community to make a difference.
Kindness matters. Even in the smallest dose.
Every little bit becomes part of something much bigger.
